Cherry and Almond Victoria Sandwich from Waitrose Magazine May 2013 issue

I made this as a birthday cake for a family event and it was a resounding success. It was a good twist on a classic victoria sponge. Cherries and almonds are a good combination, and I say this as someone who is not overly keen on cherries used in cooking; I prefer them fresh. Definitely one to be repeated.
